Emersons Memorials is located inside York Cemetery which is widely believed to be one of the most beautiful cemeteries in the country.

It is a beautiful conservation site with a wealth of history befitting a city with such a rich and fascinating past.

Emerson’s have been providing York with beautifully crafted memorials for over 50 years. The beautiful selection of stones and designs available are products that echo the unique J.Rotherham heritage: many years of skilled craftsmanship and generations of experienced meticulous stone selection have enabled us to become leaders in the manufacture of distinctive memorials.

As well as being an important part of the grieving process for the family, we understand that choosing the right memorial for your loved one is an enduring tribute to be appreciated by the family now and for generations to come. Our dedicated teams within Emersons are committed to ensuring our customers’ ultimate satisfaction and comfort throughout the commission of their memorial.

Meet our branch managers Sharon and Andy

Sharon and Andy between them manage our Emerson’s branch, set within the beautiful Victorian York Cemetery. They are a couple and have been together 18 years.

A farmer’s daughter and country girl at heart Sharon especially loves our showroom being within the cemetery grounds: “It’s such a beautiful place to be. Spring is my favourite time when the bulbs all come into flower. It is simply serene, not at all a sad place to be. It makes my job so much easier to be able to take a short walk with our clients and show them examples of different stones and inscription types within the cemetery.  That way they can make a fully informed choice of what stones and style may suit them.”  Sharon tells us.

Aside from working with Andy surrounded by the beauty York Cemetery boasts, for Sharon, the most rewarding aspect of her role stems from feeling that she makes a positive difference to the people she helps. Each memorial is totally unique and tells its own story.  A keen writer, it is those stories Sharon is interested in hearing and in some cases re-telling.

In her leisure time Sharon is to be found reading, walking their dogs with Andy, and spending time with their grandchildren and her horses on the family farm.

Andy loves helping to create beautiful and fitting memorials with his creative vision and flair, often starting with a blank sheet of paper and a pencil. Each memorial being totally individual. A former florist and professional photographer, he loves that same combination of creativity and meeting people working in Emerson’s brings.

Andy is somewhat of a “petrol head” and would love one day to own a huge shed full of Classic cars.  In his spare time, he enjoys music, photography, and spending time with Sharon in and around their beautiful home in Boroughbridge.
